Learn more below about the surrender and rehoming process, and how we can support you and your pet during this transition.

Rehoming Options

We understand that rehoming a beloved pet is never a simple choice. Whether you're exploring options or facing an urgent need, our goal is to help you find the most compassionate path forward—for both you and your pet.

1) Finding a New Home Yourself

2) Surrendering to Northern Neck Partners for Pets

In many cases, the best person to find a loving new home for your pet is you. A home-to-home adoption allows your pet to avoid the stress of a shelter environment and gives you the opportunity to connect them with someone who will care for them just as much as you have.

This process can take time, so patience is key. To give your pet the best chance of finding a new family:

  • Make sure they are spayed or neutered

  • Keep them up to date on vaccinations

  • Share clear photos and honest details about their personality and needs

We’re happy to offer guidance or help spread the word locally if you’d like assistance in this process.

If rehoming on your own isn’t possible, we’re here to help. Our intake process is designed to be as smooth and thoughtful as possible—for both you and your pet.

Here’s how it works:

  • Complete the Surrender Form: Tell us about your pet’s history, behavior, and medical needs.

  • Schedule a Surrender Appointment: Our team will reach out to arrange a time based on available space and resources.

  • Bring Your Pet to Us: Arriving by appointment helps reduce stress and ensures we’re prepared to welcome your pet with the care they deserve.

Once your pet is in our care, they receive a full intake wellness check, including deworming (if needed), monthly flea/tick/mosquito prevention, and a gentle bath when appropriate using our on-site bathing facilities. This helps ensure they are clean, comfortable, and on the path to their next chapter.

While space is limited, we do everything we can to ensure every animal we accept receives comfort, kindness, and a chance at a better tomorrow.

Rehoming Resources

If you’re exploring rehoming options, Adopt-a-Pet.com’s Rehome program offers a thoughtful, shelter-free alternative. This tool allows you to connect directly with potential adopters, giving your pet a chance at a new home without ever entering a shelter environment.

In addition to helping with rehoming, Adopt-a-Pet also provides helpful tips and resources that may even support you in keeping your pet if you’re facing temporary challenges.

Please Note:
Pets listed through Adopt-a-Pet.com are not in the care of Northern Neck Partners for Pets. All communication and arrangements must be made directly through their platform.
